About this tour

Step into the green heart of Alaska on a guided Chugach State Park nature walk, where towering spruce and paper birch rise above a lively forest floor. This 180-minute outing offers an easygoing introduction to the region’s flora and fauna, led by a naturalist who brings the landscape into focus.

Walk through a mixed boreal and coastal rainforest and spot alders, willows, devil’s club, lichens, fungi, berries, and mosses along the way. Learn how the forest and glaciated valleys shape this wild setting, and keep watch for wildlife such as moose, bears, and birds. Trekking poles and a granola bar are provided, and guests with dietary restrictions can request an alternative snack.

The route includes some steep, hilly sections, so consider your comfort with uneven terrain before setting out. Meet outside the Dena'ina Center in Anchorage and arrive 15 minutes early. How this score is calculated

This tour scores 4.81 on Viator and 5.00 on GetYourGuide. Ratings on these sites cluster near the top of the 5-star scale, so we compare each one with all other ratings on the same site before combining them.

How the score works and rating distribution in Anchorage
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.2.
