On the big tour booking sites, almost every tour is excellent. We measured how often: the share of listings rated 4.8 stars or higher, across 43,393 rated Viator and GetYourGuide listings in 324 cities in 4 countries.

Why it matters
A rating only helps you choose if it separates good options from weak ones. When 62.2% of tours sit at 4.8 or above, a 4.8 tells you almost nothing: it is the typical score, not a mark of quality. 39.4% of rated Viator listings show a perfect 5.0, and 45.4% have fewer than 10 reviews, so a few happy customers are enough for a perfect score.
This is why TourTruth does not show the stars as the headline. Each tour's rating is compared with every other rating on the same site and weighted by its number of reviews, then shown as one score from 0 to 10. How the score works.

Method
- Listings. Every active Viator and GetYourGuide listing that TourTruth tracks for a live tour and that shows a rating from 1 to 5. A city's figures cover the listings of the tours on its TourTruth page.
- Ratings and reviews. The rating and review count each site shows on the listing, collected by TourTruth and refreshed weekly. The five-star share counts the star breakdown Viator publishes for each listing.
- Same tour on both sites. Listings are matched into one tour by name, operator, location and description. Price comparisons only use pairs with the same listed duration, prices within a factor of two, and no private option on one side against a shared one on the other. Prices are each site's lowest listed price in US dollars when collected; the price on your date can differ.
- Updates. Every figure on this page is recalculated with each weekly data update.
