Explore Asheville’s South Slope with a kilted storyteller, visiting four pubs while hearing eerie tales of Appalachian cryptids and legends.

About this tour

Step into Asheville’s shadowy folklore on a Cryptids and Creatures Pub Crawl, where Appalachian legends meet the lively taverns of the South Slope. Your kilted guide, Angus Brewbeard, leads the way through four unique pubs, sharing stories of the Boojum, Mothman, the Brown Mountain Lights, and other strange encounters said to haunt the region.

This Asheville Cryptids and Creatures Pub Crawl blends local history, myth, and theatrical storytelling. Angus brings decades of experience as a professional actor, director, and fight choreographer, turning the walk between pubs into part of the performance. Settle into each stop, listen for the eerie details, and decide for yourself whether these tales belong to legend or something closer to home. Drinks are available for purchase, and eating beforehand is recommended. Brewery stops may change based on events or venue availability.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 12 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Asheville
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.7. Top 27% in Asheville means it ranks in the top 27% of tours in Asheville by this score.
