Drive Cataloochee's winding backroads on a guided UTV adventure, with mountain scenery, local stories, and chances to spot elk.
About this tour
Trade ordinary sightseeing for a hands-on ride through the mountain backroads of Maggie Valley. On this 3-hour Maggie Valley Self-Drive UTV Tour, follow an experienced local guide along winding dirt and gravel roads framed by forests and Smoky Mountain views.
After a safety briefing and operating instructions, take the wheel of a side-by-side UTV reserved for your group. The route explores historic Cataloochee Valley, where your guide shares local history, Appalachian stories, and tales of the region. Along the way, enjoy scenic stops and opportunities to take photos. Keep watch for elk and other native wildlife in Cataloochee's meadows; sightings are possible but never guaranteed.
Fuel and a local guide are included, so you can focus on the road, the scenery, and the stories that bring this mountain community to life. Drivers need a driver's license and proof of car insurance, and guests who prefer not to drive can call ahead to request a guide-driven UTV. Arrive 15 minutes early, then set out to discover Cataloochee from the backroads on a Maggie Valley Self-Drive UTV Tour.

How this score is calculated
This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.88 from 25 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.
How the score works and rating distribution in Asheville
- Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
- Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
- Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
- The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.4. Top 37% in Asheville means it ranks in the top 37% of tours in Asheville by this score.
