Explore Mount Desert Island on a flexible private tour, with Somes Sound, photo stops, and time to discover places that interest your group.

About this tour

Make the day your own on a private Mount Desert Island tour, with Somes Sound in place of Cadillac Summit. This flexible outing suits groups with mixed ages and travelers who would rather explore the island’s park loop road, harbors, and towns than visit the summit.

There is no scripted route in the description: ask questions, pause for photos, and spend time at places that catch your interest. The experience is especially well suited to photographers and groups who want room to explore together. Bottled water, snacks, a Cadillac Mountain Summit Reservation, and Acadia National Park are listed as inclusions, while a car seat is excluded.

Cruise ship guests meet at the tender port and should call when they are aboard the tenders. Set out for a relaxed, personal look at Mount Desert Island and enjoy the freedom to shape the stops around your group.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 2 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Bar Harbor
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.2. Top 48% in Bar Harbor means it ranks in the top 48% of tours in Bar Harbor by this score.
