About this tour
Explore Hilo’s history on a self-guided audio walk that starts across from the farmers market. With the WalknTours app as your companion, set your own pace and pause whenever a market stall, historic corner, or ocean view catches your eye.
As you visit historic sites around Hilo, hear stories about local foods, immigration, kapu, religion, Hawaiian legends, and the island’s kings. The tour also touches on Portuguese and Japanese communities, Native Hawaiian history, tsunamis, and the ocean, bringing the town’s past into focus through the places where it unfolded. The route stays outdoors, so you can enjoy the stories without entering buildings.
Your tour never expires, and you can listen again whenever you like. Complete the on-location walk to unlock a virtual tour for listening later. Choose this Hilo history and legends audio walking tour for a flexible way to connect the sights with the stories behind them.

How this score is calculated
This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 3.00 from 1 review. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.
How the score works and rating distribution in Big Island of Hawaii
- Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
- Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
- Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
- The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.0.
