Experience a Big Island luau at Mauna Lani with a Hawaiian buffet, traditional chant, hula, and a thrilling Samoan fire knife dance.

About this tour

Set at Mauna Lani in historic Kalāhuipuaʻa, this Big Island luau brings Hawaiian history and island performance together in a memorable evening. Ancient Hawaiians mastered aquaculture here, and King Kamehameha came to recuperate and work among the fishponds.

Guests are welcomed with a traditional Oli chant before joining preliminary activities with the cast. Watch as the pig is lifted from the traditional imu pit, then enjoy a Hawaiian buffet dinner with a welcome cocktail and soft drinks. The evening builds to a lively program of traditional and modern hula, capped by the spectacle of Samoan Siva Afi, or fire knife dancing.

With valet parking and wheelchair-accessible areas and transportation options, the experience offers a convenient way to enjoy a cultural celebration at Mauna Lani. Book your Big Island luau and spend the evening immersed in the stories, flavors, and performances of Kalāhuipuaʻa.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.65 from 99 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Big Island of Hawaii
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.2.
