See Chicago’s skyline from the river on a 90-minute architecture cruise with expert docents and stories behind the city’s landmark buildings.

About this tour

See Chicago from the water on a 90-minute architecture cruise led by expert docents. From the river, the city’s skyline reveals layers of history, from landmark buildings to modern designs, while stories bring the architects and builders behind them into view.

The Chicago Architecture Center River Cruise offers live English commentary and a climate-controlled lower level, with a restroom on board. Seating is general admission, and boarding is first come, first served. Your ticket also supports the Chicago Architecture Center’s education and community engagement projects. The cruise operates in all weather, so dress for the conditions; routes, vessels, and schedules may change. Most, but not all, departures are wheelchair accessible, and the dock has no elevator access.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.93 from 7,619 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Chicago
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 8.9. Top 6% in Chicago means it ranks in the top 6% of tours in Chicago by this score.
