Fairbanks to Anchorage Aurora Winter Train 12 hr

Trade Alaska’s summer colors for a quieter winter world on the Aurora Winter Train. This 12-hour, one-way journey from Fairbanks to Anchorage pairs the warmth of a comfortable railcar with expansive views of snow-covered wilderness.

Settle into reserved seating in a non-smoking car and watch the landscape pass through large picture windows. The route follows the same tracks as the summer Denali Star, but winter brings a different kind of beauty: pristine snow, hushed forests, and broad river valleys. On clear days, Denali may rise above the Susitna River, while a watchful eye could spot a moose along the way. South of Hurricane Gulch, the train also provides flagstop service through a 50-mile stretch of roadless backcountry. Optional dining and a snack bar are available onboard, and baggage services are provided.

The Aurora Winter Train runs southbound on Sundays, with select midweek departures on Wednesdays and/or Fridays from December through March. Choose a departure and experience the vast winter scenery between Fairbanks and Anchorage from the comfort of the rails.
