Ride with 16 huskies, meet Iditarod veterans, cuddle future sled dogs, and learn how mushers prepare their teams for the race.
About this tour
Meet the huskies who keep Alaska’s sled-dog tradition moving through summer. On this Juneau Sled Dog Discovery, ride with a team of 16 powerful dogs, many of them Iditarod veterans, and get close to the puppies growing up to follow in their pawprints.
Your 135-minute experience offers a glimpse into how mushers keep their dogs in shape outside the winter racing season. After the ride, spend time cuddling Alaskan Husky puppies and learn what it takes for both musher and dog to become Iditarod champions. It’s a lively introduction to the teamwork behind sled-dog racing, with plenty of time to meet the dogs.
Juneau Sled Dog Discovery is a chance to connect with the animals and people behind this iconic Alaskan sport. Arrive 15 minutes early at the base of the Mt. Roberts Tram, then look for your guide in green holding an excursion sign. Bring your curiosity and get ready to meet the team.

How this score is calculated
This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.74 from 237 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.
How the score works and rating distribution in Juneau
- Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
- Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
- Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
- The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.6.
