Explore Tate Modern with an art historian, discuss contemporary works from fresh perspectives, and enjoy a thoughtful 2-hour London visit.
About this tour
See Tate Modern through the eyes of an art historian on a 2-hour London tour designed to make contemporary art feel more approachable and personal. Your guide, Julia, previously worked as a collection research assistant at Tate and now leads visitors through the gallery’s collection.
Together, you’ll look closely at selected works, consider fresh perspectives, and talk openly about what you see. Ask questions, share your impressions, and discover ways to look at, understand, and discuss art without needing specialist knowledge. There’s time to pause for a photo in front of an artwork you choose, too. The tour includes free entry to Tate Modern; paid temporary exhibitions are not included. Meet inside the Turbine Hall entrance after the security and bag check, by the pinkish-orange donation box. The experience is wheelchair accessible, and all ages are welcome.

How this score is calculated
This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.84 from 32 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.
How the score works and rating distribution in London
- Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
- Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
- Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
- The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.3. Top 37% in London means it ranks in the top 37% of tours in London by this score.
