London Wapping and Old Docks Audio Tour

Follow the Thames through Wapping, where old dockside lanes preserve the character of London’s seafaring past. This self-guided London Wapping audio tour brings the neighborhood’s stories to life as you explore at your own pace with GPS-guided audio.

Wapping was once a world apart, shaped by sailors, smugglers, and the busy riverfront. Hear about the Prospect of Whitby, a pub frequented by pirates and smugglers as well as Charles Dickens and Samuel Pepys. The route also recalls the riverside’s many historic pubs and the London Docks, built in the early 19th century for imports such as rum, wine, and tobacco. Though the docks closed in 1969, former wharves and warehouses remain, many now converted into apartments. Their preserved buildings offer a glimpse of the area’s working waterfront and changing fortunes.
