Paddle the Colorado River through Castle Valley’s sandstone scenery, with gentle water, a few mild rapids, and about two hours on the river.
About this tour
Trade the desert trail for a paddle through Castle Valley, where sculpted sandstone rises above the Colorado River. This half-day Moab kayaking trip pairs gentle water with striking scenery, making the journey as memorable as the time spent paddling.
Check in at the Mild to Wild office, get fitted with a Coast Guard-approved life jacket, then ride the shuttle about 40 minutes to the river. After a safety orientation and paddling instruction, set off with experienced guides for roughly two hours on the water. Most of the route is calm, with a few mild rapid sections along the way. Kayaks travel faster than the rafts sharing the river, so you may pause occasionally while the group catches up, giving you extra time to take in the valley.
Inflatable kayaks, paddles, guides, and round-trip transportation are provided. Lunch, snacks, gratuities, and wetsuit rentals are not included; wetsuits cost $15 and are recommended in March and April. Choose this Moab kayaking trip for an easygoing way to experience the Colorado River and Castle Valley from the water.

How this score is calculated
This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.77 from 13 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.
How the score works and rating distribution in Moab
- Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
- Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
- Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
- The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.0.
