About this tour
Descend beneath the streets of Paris and enter a shadowy world shaped by the city’s history. On this Paris Catacombs Guided Tour, a local expert leads you more than 60 feet underground, where the remains of millions of Parisians rest in corridors and ossuaries.
Hear how overcrowded cemeteries led to the creation of this vast burial ground, and listen to legends surrounding its origins. As you walk through chambers lined with carefully arranged bones, your guide shares historical context and points out unusual patterns and artistic details you might otherwise miss. The route covers about 1 mile, with roughly 130 steps down and 85 steps back to street level. Temperatures inside are around 14°C, so keep the physical demands and enclosed setting in mind when planning your visit.

How this score is calculated
This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.86 from 272 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.
How the score works and rating distribution in Paris
- Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
- Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
- Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
- The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.7. Top 18% in Paris means it ranks in the top 18% of tours in Paris by this score.
