Trace the Louvre’s journey from royal palace to museum on a private guided tour featuring masterpieces, hidden history, and imperial rooms.

About this tour

Discover how a royal palace became one of the world’s great museums on this private Paris Louvre Museum Tour. Your guide begins outside the Louvre, introducing the palace’s history and architecture before leading you inside to explore its remarkable past.

Walk through the foundations of a 12th-century fortress and uncover a hidden dungeon, royal apartments, and rooms dating to the 16th century. Along the way, encounter celebrated works including the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, and Winged Victory of Samothrace, alongside iconic French and Italian paintings. The visit also takes in the French crown jewels in the Apollo Gallery and concludes among the stately imperial apartments.

With an English-speaking guide and a private group of 2 to 6, this 195-minute experience brings the Louvre’s art and history into focus. Meet to the right of the Caroussel arch when facing the museum, and allow at least five days before your visit to secure tickets. How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 3 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Paris
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.3. Top 35% in Paris means it ranks in the top 35% of tours in Paris by this score.
