Explore Notre-Dame’s façade, flying buttresses, and history on a guided walk across the Île de la Cité in the heart of Paris.

About this tour

See Notre-Dame from the streets and viewpoints that reveal its details best. On this 2-hour Paris Notre-Dame Exterior Guided Tour, a licensed local guide leads you from the Latin Quarter toward the cathedral, then across the Seine to its famous west façade. Along the way, discover how to read the sculpted portals and Gallery of Kings, and learn how the flying buttresses support the Gothic structure.

Continue across the Île de la Cité, the island where Paris began, as your guide traces its story from Roman Lutetia to the medieval city. Hear about the 2019 fire, the rebuilding of the spire, and the craftspeople involved in Notre-Dame’s restoration. Meet in front of the Odette pastry shop before setting off. The tour focuses on the exterior; a guided interior visit and tower access are not included. Individual visitors can enter the cathedral for free, so you can explore inside on your own afterward. Choose this Paris Notre-Dame Exterior Guided Tour for a closer look at the architecture and history that shape the city. Book your walk and see the landmark with fresh eyes.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 15 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Paris
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.8. Top 14% in Paris means it ranks in the top 14% of tours in Paris by this score.
