Explore Notre-Dame’s history and Gothic architecture on a private, 90-minute Paris tour led by a professional art historian.

About this tour

Discover the stories carved into one of Paris’s most celebrated Gothic landmarks on a private Paris Notre-Dame Historical Tour. Led by a professional art historian, this 90-minute walk draws on extensive research and more than a decade of guiding experience to illuminate the cathedral’s history, architecture, and cultural significance.

Meet your guide beside the Charlemagne statue, on the right-hand side of the church, and look for the red canvas tote bag. As you explore Notre-Dame, hear a carefully researched account of the monument and the ideas that have made it a defining work of Western architecture. The tour is designed to offer a thoughtful, comprehensive perspective rather than a quick look at the façade.

Please note that guiding inside the cathedral is not guaranteed while new rules are being implemented, and the visit may remain outside. Cathedral entry is free and open to all, but the tour service is independent of interior access. Choose this Paris Notre-Dame Historical Tour for an expert-led encounter with the landmark, and leave with a richer understanding of its place in the city’s story.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.66 from 47 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Paris
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.5.
