Explore Saint Mary Major with a guide, visiting Pope Francis’s tomb and seeing the manger relic and revered Salus Populi Romani icon.

About this tour

Step inside one of Rome’s most treasured basilicas on a guided visit to Saint Mary Major, where sacred history and remarkable works of devotion fill the grand interior. With an official physical guide, explore the church and visit the tomb of Pope Francis.

Admire the relic of the manger of Baby Jesus and the revered Salus Populi Romani icon, considered the patroness of Rome. The basilica also preserves a striking tradition: each August 5, a cascade of white petals recreates the miraculous snowfall associated with the church. Your 120-minute visit offers time to take in these meaningful sights and hear their stories.

How this score is calculated

This tour has no TourTruth score yet: Viator doesn't show a usable rating for it. It gets a score as soon as a provider lists one.

How the score works
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10. Tours without a usable provider rating are not scored.
