About this tour
Follow Caravaggio’s story through Rome, from the churches that display his dramatic paintings to the workshop where skilled artisans preserve historic works. This 150-minute Rome Caravaggio Art Restoration Tour pairs celebrated masterpieces with a rare look at the craft behind their care.
Begin at Sant’Agostino to see the Madonna of Loreto, restored by the team you’ll meet later. Continue to San Luigi dei Francesi, home to Caravaggio’s striking St. Matthew series. Then step behind the scenes at an art restoration lab, where you can watch artisans at work on 16th-century paintings and hear about the restoration of the Madonna of Loreto. An expert guide leads the tour, and a complimentary aperitif offers time to talk with the restorers.

How this score is calculated
This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 4 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.
How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
- Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
- Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
- Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
- The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.3. Top 31% in Rome means it ranks in the top 31% of tours in Rome by this score.
