See Caravaggio’s original masterpieces in Rome’s historic basilicas on a guided walk through the stories behind his art.
About this tour
Step into Rome’s historic basilicas and encounter Caravaggio’s art in the places it was created to be seen. This 150-minute walking tour explores original masterpieces set among the atmosphere and history of the city’s churches, rather than a museum exhibition or a visit to Palazzo Barberini.
Meet your guide in front of the Church of San Luigi dei Francesi, then follow the story behind Caravaggio’s paintings and revolutionary style. At each stop, discover the context surrounding the artwork, the controversies that shaped the artist’s life, and the lasting influence of his dramatic approach. A live English-speaking guide leads the experience, with headphones available if needed.
Rome Caravaggio Walking Tour offers a vivid way to connect the art with its historic surroundings. Wear comfortable shoes, and remember that basilicas require shoulders and knees to be covered. Join the walk to see Rome through the eyes of one of its most compelling artists.

How this score is calculated
This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 1 review. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.
How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
- Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
- Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
- Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
- The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.1. Top 48% in Rome means it ranks in the top 48% of tours in Rome by this score.
