Explore Castel Sant’Angelo with a guide or audioguide, and take in panoramic views of Rome from this historic fortress.

About this tour

See Rome from the heights of Castel Sant’Angelo, where sweeping views meet centuries of history. This 60-minute Castel Sant’Angelo tour gives you a choice of ways to explore: join a small group of up to 15 with an English-speaking guide, or use the audioguide app to discover the fortress at your own pace. Pre-booked entry makes it easy to begin your visit at the main gate, beneath the statue of the angel.

For a more personal experience, choose the private option. Depending on the selected experience, it can extend beyond the fortress to famous Roman landmarks such as Piazza del Popolo, St. Peter’s Square, and the Pantheon, viewed from outside. The Friday or Saturday private option also offers access to the Passetto di Borgo, the historic papal escape route. Bring a passport or valid ID for entry, and keep in mind that restoration work or site restrictions may affect access and views.

Choose the Castel Sant’Angelo tour option that suits your pace and take in Rome from a remarkable vantage point.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.72 from 1,121 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.3.
