Step onto the Colosseum’s Arena floor and hear how gladiators, hidden tunnels, and Roman spectacle shaped the heart of ancient Rome.

About this tour

Stand where gladiators once fought and imagine the crowd’s roar rising through the Colosseum. This 75-minute Rome Colosseum group tour brings the ancient amphitheater to life with stories of its engineering, spectacles, and political intrigue. With Arena access, step onto the floor and look toward the Senators’ seats, where Rome’s elite once watched the action.

Your guide explains how elevators, trapdoors, and underground tunnels helped move animals from the hypogeum to the Arena. Depending on the option you choose, your ticket may also include entry to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. The Colosseum reservation fee and entrance ticket are included, while Arena, Forum, and Palatine Hill access vary by option.

Meet in the square in front of the Santi Cosma and Damiano Basilica on Via dei Fori Imperiali 1, and arrive 15 minutes early for check-in. Bring valid ID that matches each booking name. The route involves steps, considerable walking, and uneven paths, so wear comfortable flat shoes. Choose your preferred access option and experience Rome’s ancient landmarks up close.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.35 from 136 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 4.8.
