Enter through the Gladiators’ Gate, explore the Colosseum’s upper levels, and hear stories of ancient Rome with a guided visit.

About this tour

Step through the Gladiators’ Gate and imagine the anticipation of ancient fighters entering the arena. This 75-minute Rome Colosseum Guided Tour brings the amphitheater’s history into focus, with access to its first and second levels and a guide when that option is selected.

Look out across the vast arena from the upper tiers, where Roman spectators once gathered, and hear about gladiatorial combat, the social order of the crowd, and the Colosseum’s construction and legacy. Along the way, notice inscriptions carved into the stone and take in the scale of this landmark from elevated viewpoints. Your ticket also covers the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, valid for 24 hours within the stated opening hours, so you can continue exploring these ancient sites at your own pace.

Meet the tour staff on the upper level of Colosseo metro station, near the M symbol and Caffe Roma. Bring valid ID matching the names supplied at booking. Choose the Rome Colosseum Guided Tour to see the monument from its historic tiers and make the most of your visit.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.29 from 1,694 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 3.5.
