Step onto the Colosseum’s Arena Floor or descend into the hypogeum, with a live guide and access to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.

About this tour

See the Colosseum from the Arena Floor, then choose how far into its history you want to go. On this 120-minute Rome Colosseum tour, an expert guide brings the amphitheater’s ancient games to life and explains how its hidden underground system worked.

The Arena route takes you onto the gladiators’ stage for panoramic views from the center of the amphitheater. For a closer look behind the spectacle, choose the underground extension and descend into the restricted hypogeum tunnels. The Arena route accommodates up to 12 guests, while the underground option is limited to 7. Both experiences include access to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill, with a headset to help you hear the live guide.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.89 from 272 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 8.0. Top 13% in Rome means it ranks in the top 13% of tours in Rome by this score.
