Visit Rome’s three Major Papal Basilicas with an English-speaking private driver, hotel pickup, and comfortable air-conditioned transport.

About this tour

Discover Rome’s Major Papal Basilicas with a professional, English-speaking driver and the comfort of a private vehicle. This 180-minute outing connects three remarkable landmarks, giving you time to appreciate their history, art, and spiritual significance.

Visit the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran, the Cathedral of Rome and the Pope’s official ecclesiastical seat. Continue to the Basilica of St. Mary Major, one of the Western world’s oldest Marian shrines, celebrated for its striking mosaics. Then see the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, built over the tomb of Saint Paul. Your driver coordinates convenient drop-off points near each entrance and shares helpful information along the way. Hotel pickup and drop-off, an air-conditioned vehicle, and bottled water make the journey comfortable.

This is not a guided tour inside the basilicas, so you can explore each site independently. Choose this Rome Papal Basilicas tour for an easy way to connect the city’s landmark churches in one outing, with a private driver handling the travel between them.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.20 from 25 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.0.
