Explore Santa Maria Maggiore’s mosaics, visit the Liberian Museum, and enjoy exclusive Dome area access with a live guide in Rome.
About this tour
Step inside Santa Maria Maggiore, one of Rome’s most revered papal basilicas, and discover its art and history with a live guide. This 90-minute Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica and Dome Guided Tour brings the site’s mosaics and frescoes into focus, with headsets to help you follow the stories clearly.
Explore the Liberian Museum, where the collection includes relics and works of art, then enjoy exclusive access to the Dome area. From above, take in views across Rome as your guide points out landmarks. The tour includes museum and Dome area tickets, so you can focus on the visit rather than arranging those admissions yourself.
Meet your host in Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore, in front of the obelisk, and look for the light blue INSIDE OUT ITALY flag. Children under 7 cannot enter the Dome area, and the tour is not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health. Choose this Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica and Dome Guided Tour for a guided look at a landmark where art, faith, and the city’s skyline meet.

How this score is calculated
This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.83 from 6 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.
How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
- Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
- Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
- Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
- The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.1.
