Explore St. Peter’s Basilica and the Papal tombs with a guide, then choose an optional dome climb for sweeping views of Rome.

About this tour

Step into the heart of Vatican history on a Rome St. Peter’s Basilica guided tour, where monumental architecture and sacred stories meet. Over two hours, explore the Basilica’s Baroque and Renaissance treasures, including works associated with Michelangelo and Bernini, as your guide brings the setting to life. Sterilized headsets help you follow the commentary clearly, and the visit also introduces the history of the Papal tombs. An optional dome climb offers panoramic views across Rome and the Vatican Gardens; dome tickets with elevator access are not included, and the climb may not suit visitors with claustrophobia or vertigo. Meet your coordinator outside the Basilica before entering St. Peter’s Square and passing security. Allow 5–45 minutes for security checks, and dress with knees and shoulders covered. The Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and Vatican Necropoli are not part of this experience. Make time for a closer look at one of Rome’s most remarkable landmarks and its layers of art, faith, and history.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.39 from 49 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 5.7.
