Explore St. Peter’s Basilica, the papal tombs, and its celebrated art with a licensed guide, with an optional Dome visit for Rome views.

About this tour

Step into the heart of Vatican City on a Rome St. Peter’s Basilica Guided Tour, where masterpieces and centuries of history fill one of the world’s most celebrated churches. With an expert licensed guide leading the way, admire Michelangelo’s La Pietà, Bernini’s grand Baldacchino, and the basilica’s ornate altar while hearing the stories behind its art and architecture.

Continue into the Vatican Grottoes to see the papal tombs, chapels, and corridors, and learn about the figures laid to rest beneath the basilica. Headsets help you follow the guide in crowded areas, and skip-the-line entrance is included. Choose the Dome option to add a visit after the guided tour; allow at least 30 minutes for the extra experience and panoramic views across Rome.

Make the most of your Rome St. Peter’s Basilica Guided Tour by arriving early, dressing to meet the basilica’s modesty requirements, and bringing only a very small bag. Discover the art, history, and spiritual significance of this remarkable landmark with a knowledgeable guide.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.80 from 287 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.1.
