Explore St. Peter’s Basilica with a private guide, from Michelangelo’s La Pietà and Bernini’s Baldacchino to the papal tombs.

About this tour

Step inside St. Peter’s Basilica with a private guide and discover the stories behind its celebrated art and sacred spaces. This 90-minute Rome St. Peter’s Basilica Private Guided Tour brings you face to face with Michelangelo’s La Pietà, where your guide explains the significance of the sculpture.

Continue to Bernini’s Baldacchino, then descend to the first underground floor to see the tombs of the Popes. A private guide offers a more personal way to explore these remarkable landmarks and understand their place in the basilica’s history. After the guided visit, you’ll have free time if you’d like to climb to the Dome; the Dome ticket is not included and can be paid for on site.

Meet at Borgo Pio 96, where your guide will be easy to spot with an Around City Time flag. Remember to cover your knees and shoulders to meet the basilica’s dress requirements. How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.80 from 15 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.1.
