About this tour

Step into centuries of art, faith, and history on a guided Rome St. Peter’s Basilica tour. Admire the church’s golden ceiling, intricate mosaics, Michelangelo’s Pietà, and Bernini’s statues as your English-speaking guide brings the landmark’s stories to life. The 150-minute experience also leads below the basilica into the Vatican Grottoes, where you can visit the Papal Tombs, see St. Peter’s Tomb, and view surviving walls from the original 4th-century basilica. After exploring the church and grottoes, choose the Dome Climb option for a closer look at the dome and panoramic views across Rome; elevator access is available with this option. The tour meets at Piazza della Città Leonina, opposite St. Peter’s Square. A private tour option is available for groups of up to 9 people. Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel tickets are not included, and security screening is mandatory for all visitors. Choose the option that suits your visit and discover the remarkable layers of St. Peter’s Basilica with a guide.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.92 from 12 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.4. Top 28% in Rome means it ranks in the top 28% of tours in Rome by this score.
