Explore St. Peter’s Basilica with a guide, reserved entrance, and close-up views of Bernini’s Baldacchino and Michelangelo’s Pietà.

About this tour

Step into centuries of art, faith, and history on a St Peter's Basilica guided tour with priority access. Begin in St. Peter’s Square, where Bernini’s embracing colonnades frame the central obelisk and set the scene for your visit. Then enter the basilica with a guide who brings its Renaissance rebirth and Baroque embellishments to life.

Inside, look up at Bernini’s towering bronze Baldacchino, with its twisting columns and intricate reliefs above the high altar. Take time to admire Michelangelo’s Pietà, a moving marble sculpture celebrated for its delicate detail and quiet emotion. Headsets help you follow the guide’s commentary throughout the experience, which lasts about two hours.

Meet your guide in front of Café Leonina in Piazza della Città Leonina, and look for a light blue company flag. Reserved entrance to St. Peter’s Basilica is included; a ticket to the Dome is not included unless you select an option that provides one. Choose this St Peter's Basilica guided tour to experience the landmark’s celebrated art and architecture with context and clarity.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.50 from 8 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.8.
