Explore St. Peter’s Basilica, its iconic dome, and the Popes’ tombs on a 135-minute guided tour in Vatican City.

About this tour

Discover the artistry and history of St. Peter’s Basilica on a guided visit that includes its celebrated dome. In Vatican City, Michelangelo’s dome rises above an interior of gilded ceilings, intricate mosaics, and monumental sculpture, including Bernini’s Baldachin.

Your guide leads you through St. Peter’s Basilica and the dome, then to the Popes’ tombs and the area of St. Peter’s Tomb. Headphones help you follow the commentary as you take in the basilica’s vast nave, ornate altars, and remarkable Renaissance details. The tour lasts 135 minutes and is led in English. Meet outside the entrance to Hotel Palazzo Cardinal Cesi 30 minutes before departure; public transportation is available nearby.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 3.36 from 11 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.4.
