Explore Kitt Peak’s night sky, spot the Moon through telescopes, and learn about stars and constellations with an expert guide.

About this tour

See the Moon in striking detail beneath the dark skies of Kitt Peak National Observatory. This Tucson astronomy program pairs a guide-led introduction to the night sky with time to explore one of the country’s renowned observatory sites.

Start at the Visitor Center, where exhibits introduce the observatory and its history. Enjoy a light sandwich meal, then learn how to identify stars and constellations. Outdoors, scan the sky with a selection of telescopes and binoculars before stepping inside a dome to view the Moon, planets when visible, and possibly a bright deep-space object. The program typically runs near the full Moon for excellent lunar views, with a smaller guest-to-staff ratio, usually no more than 12 guests per staff member, and more time at the instruments.

Transportation to Kitt Peak is not included, and nights can be cold, so dress warmly. Reserve your place for a memorable Tucson Moon astronomy program and a closer look at the night sky.

How this score is calculated

This tour has no TourTruth score yet: GetYourGuide doesn't show a usable rating for it. It gets a score as soon as a provider lists one.

How the score works
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10. Tours without a usable provider rating are not scored.
