Explore Williamsburg’s restoration story through historic photographs, local insight, and a relaxed breakfast-time tour at the Williamsburg Inn.

About this tour

See Williamsburg through the photographs and stories that reveal how the town changed before and after Colonial Williamsburg’s restoration in the late 1920s and early 1930s. This relaxed 90-minute Williamsburg Colonial History Tour pairs local insight with a comfortable setting at the Williamsburg Inn.

Most of the experience takes place seated during breakfast, where your guide uses a copy of Williamsburg Before and After or Restoring Williamsburg to bring the restoration story into focus. Breakfast is not included, so you can choose and pay for your own food and drinks. Between stories, admire original hotel décor and explore some of the grounds, including views of the Golden Horseshoe golf courses. If you wish, finish with a short walk to Duke of Gloucester Street. The guide is knowledgeable about Williamsburg’s history, and the tour is wheelchair accessible.

Meet in the lobby of The Williamsburg Inn. Your group receives one of the two featured books, and the tour ends on the grounds or nearby Duke of Gloucester Street, if desired. Choose this Williamsburg Colonial History Tour for an easygoing way to connect historic images with the streets and places around you.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.67 from 12 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Williamsburg
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.9.
