Watch for whales aboard a double-deck catamaran and listen to their songs through an underwater hydrophone on this Maui tour.

About this tour

Set out from Ma'alaea for a two-hour encounter with whales in their natural habitat. Aboard a double-deck power catamaran, you can watch the water for the unmistakable signs of whale activity, from a tail or fin slapping the surface to a full breach.

The experience pairs wildlife viewing with an informative historical narration, while an underwater hydrophone offers the chance to hear whale songs. A shaded cabin, two restrooms, and complimentary ice-cold sodas and juice add comfort during the trip. Whale behavior varies, so sightings and displays are not guaranteed.

Check in 30 minutes before departure at Boss Frog's in Wailuku, then head out from Ma'alaea with an experienced captain and crew. Choose this Maui whale watching tour for a memorable way to experience the island's marine life from the water.

How this score is calculated

This tour scores 4.61 on Viator and 4.60 on GetYourGuide. Ratings on these sites cluster near the top of the 5-star scale, so we compare each one with all other ratings on the same site before combining them.

How the score works and rating distribution in Maui
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.1.
