Catch sunrise above the clouds, then ride 15 miles downhill from Haleakala toward Makawao with a professional guide.

About this tour

Watch dawn break above the clouds on Haleakala, then trade the summit for a scenic downhill ride through Upcountry Maui. This Haleakala sunrise bike tour pairs a memorable early-morning view with a guided 15-mile ride from about 6,500 feet toward the town of Makawao.

Meet your professional guide in Haiku before heading to the mountain. After sunrise, set off on a Kona mountain bike, with a bell helmet, gloves, and Helly Hansen rain gear provided. The route descends from just outside Haleakala National Park through changing landscapes toward Upcountry. An air-conditioned vehicle and park entrance fees are included, while a stop in Haiku offers a chance to buy breakfast.

Riders need recent biking experience, moderate fitness, and must be at least 15 years old and 4'10" tall. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring water, snacks, and warm layers for the summit. Choose this Haleakala sunrise bike tour for a guided ride that turns a spectacular sunrise into an active Maui adventure.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.62 from 290 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Maui
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 5.7.
