Catch sunrise above the clouds, then ride 20 miles downhill on a guided Haleakala bike tour with mountain views and switchbacks.

About this tour

Watch dawn break above the clouds, then coast down Haleakala on a guided 20-mile bike ride. This 7-hour Maui Haleakala sunrise bike tour pairs the island’s high-altitude sunrise with a memorable downhill journey through mountain scenery.

After sunrise, set off from about 6,500 feet on a custom Kona mountain bike. Ride the switchbacks twice, then continue by shuttle to Makawao and finish cycling toward Haiku. The tour provides a helmet, gloves, backpack, windbreaker suit, park entrance, and air-conditioned transportation. A breakfast stop is available, but the meal is not included.

Riders need recent biking experience, a minimum height of 4 feet 10 inches, and enough fitness for an outdoor ride. The provider’s materials differ on the minimum age, listing both 12 and 15, so check before booking. Bring closed-toe shoes, water, snacks, and warm layers for the summit. Choose this Maui Haleakala sunrise bike tour for a striking start to the day and a long, scenic descent.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.67 from 782 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Maui
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.0.
