Watch humpback whales in South Maui and listen to their songs through onboard hydrophones and personal headphones.

About this tour

Set sail from South Maui for a whale-watching experience that brings the Pacific’s soundscape into focus. Alongside the chance to see humpback whales in their natural habitat, you’ll hear their songs through onboard hydrophones and personal headphones.

During this 2-hour cruise, expert naturalists share insights into whale behavior and the importance of sound in ocean life. Learn how humpbacks communicate, court, and navigate through song, and hear about the growing challenge of ocean noise. Small-group interpretation adds context to the encounters, while filtered water is provided onboard.

South Maui whale watching offers a rare way to experience these animals beyond the surface: watch for whales, then listen as their calls travel through the water. Check in 45 minutes before departure at the Pacific Whale Ocean Store in the Maui Harbor Shops complex, next to the Maui Ocean Center. Come aboard and discover a more immersive side of whale watching in South Maui.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. GetYourGuide rates it 4.59 from 1,015 reviews. We place that rating among all GetYourGuide ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Maui
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 6.4.
