Join a small-group Maui whale-watching tour with a marine naturalist, and look for humpbacks and dolphins in the Maui Nui sanctuary.

About this tour

Set out from Lahaina on a small-group Maui whale-watching tour, where a maximum of six guests gives everyone a close-up view of the water. An onboard marine naturalist shares educational insights as the vessel travels through the protected Maui Nui sanctuary, where humpback whales come from Alaska to mate and give birth. The trip may cover 2 to 10 miles from Lahaina, with dolphins sometimes appearing along the way.

This two-hour Maui whale-watching tour offers a lively ride aboard a vessel designed to travel quickly in search of whales. Sightings are guaranteed from December through April, with a free return trip if none are spotted. Reef-safe sunscreen and purified water served in paper cups are provided. To protect the whales, the crew follows federal approach regulations; swimming with or touching them is not permitted.

Check in at Mala Boat Yard 30 minutes before departure, then head out for a memorable encounter with Maui’s marine life. Book your Maui whale-watching tour for a front-row seat on the Pacific.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.90 from 51 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Maui
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.8. Top 33% in Maui means it ranks in the top 33% of tours in Maui by this score.
