Join a small-group Maui whale-watching tour from Lahaina, with a marine naturalist, purified water, and a whale-sighting guarantee from December through April.
About this tour
Set out from Lahaina for a close-up search for humpback whales in the protected waters of the Maui Nui sanctuary. This two-hour Maui whale-watching tour keeps the group small, with no more than 12 guests, so everyone can enjoy an open view from the inflatable raft. A marine naturalist shares educational insights as you scan the water for whales and, sometimes, dolphins.
Humpback whales travel thousands of miles from Alaska to mate and give birth in Maui’s warm waters. The boat may travel 2 to 10 miles from Lahaina to look for them. Whale sightings are guaranteed from December through April, or you can go again for free. Purified water is available from an onboard dispenser, and each ticket supports marine research and whale-entanglement response work.
Choose this Maui whale-watching tour for an intimate outing with a locally operated company. Arrive 20 minutes early at Mala Boat Yard, and bring your curiosity for a memorable day on the water.

How this score is calculated
This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.86 from 225 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.
How the score works and rating distribution in Maui
- Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
- Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
- Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
- The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.7. Top 36% in Maui means it ranks in the top 36% of tours in Maui by this score.
