Cruise the Barataria Swamps on a covered New Orleans boat tour, passing Cajun landmarks and watching for native wildlife along the way.

About this tour

Follow the waterways of Louisiana’s Barataria Swamps on a covered New Orleans swamp boat tour, where bayou life unfolds along the banks. A professional guide shares the landscape and the Cajun communities that have made these wetlands home.

During the 100-minute cruise, pass a 2,000-year-old Indigenous burial mound, a Cajun cemetery, and a fishing village. Watch for birds, snakes, turtles, fur-bearing animals, and alligators as the boat moves through the swamp. Wildlife sightings vary, and alligators are not guaranteed, though they are easier to spot in spring, summer, and fall.

This New Orleans swamp boat tour offers a relaxed way to experience the Barataria wetlands from the water. Arrive at the Marrero departure point at least 20 minutes early, then settle in and keep your eyes on the shoreline for a glimpse of the bayou’s wild inhabitants.

How the score works and rating distribution in New Orleans
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.9. Top 23% in New Orleans means it ranks in the top 23% of tours in New Orleans by this score.
