Explore Harlem’s history and cultural pride on a narrated 240-minute tour with a professional guide.

About this tour

Discover Harlem’s history, heritage, and cultural pride on a guided tour of the neighborhood known around the world as the Black Mecca. Harlem’s story reaches back to the late 19th century, when African Americans moved in large numbers from the rural South to cities in the North. Their migration helped shape a community whose creative energy and cultural influence became known as the Harlem Renaissance.

Your professional guide brings this history to life during a narrated 240-minute tour. Along the way, learn how Harlem’s past shaped its identity and enduring place in American culture. The itinerary may change during special events, parades, the marathon, or heavy traffic, so the route can vary.

Meet your guide outside the Sheraton New York on 7th Avenue, between 52nd and 53rd Streets, by the revolving door. Explore Harlem’s story with a guide and see the neighborhood through the history that made it famous.

How this score is calculated

This tour scores 4.78 on Viator and 4.10 on GetYourGuide. Ratings on these sites cluster near the top of the 5-star scale, so we compare each one with all other ratings on the same site before combining them.

How the score works and rating distribution in New York City
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 2.9.
