At the Metropolitan Opera House, Medea brings the force of Greek tragedy to the stage through Cherubini’s commanding score. Set in ancient Corinth, the opera follows Medea, a foreigner from Colchis, as her story unfolds amid a world of power, passion, and betrayal.

Cherubini’s music moves from a masterful overture to magnificent vocal writing across solos and ensembles. Watch the drama sharpen in Medea’s confrontation with Giasone in Act I, then turn toward a poignant moment of pity for her children in Act III before the opera’s furious final scene. A 170-minute performance gives the score and its emotional shifts room to resonate.
