Cruise from Newport Beach with an onboard naturalist, coastal views, and the chance to spot whales and dolphins in the wild.

About this tour

Set out from Newport Beach for a whale-watching cruise along the Southern California coast, with Newport Beach and Laguna Beach scenery on the horizon. An onboard naturalist shares insights into local sea life as you scan the water for whales and dolphins.

The 135-minute Newport Beach whale-watching cruise may bring sightings of blue, finback, gray, minke, or humpback whales. Keep watch for dolphins, too, including Risso’s, white-sided, bottlenose, and common dolphins. Large groups sometimes gather offshore, making each trip a chance to see marine life in its natural setting. Sightings vary, but the coastal views and expert commentary make the time on the water rewarding.

Plan to arrive at least an hour early, particularly on summer weekends, when parking can be difficult. Paid parking is available near the departure area, and the cruise operates in all weather, so dress for the conditions. Book your Newport Beach whale-watching cruise and enjoy a fresh perspective on California’s coast.

How this score is calculated

This tour scores 4.38 on Viator and 4.25 on GetYourGuide. Ratings on these sites cluster near the top of the 5-star scale, so we compare each one with all other ratings on the same site before combining them.

How the score works and rating distribution in Newport Beach
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 3.7.
