Explore the Palais-Royal arcades and four historic passages while discovering how Paris helped shape the modern shopping experience.

About this tour

Discover how Paris turned shopping from a necessity into an experience on this guided walk through the Palais-Royal arcades and four historic covered passages. Along the way, hear how elegant galleries encouraged window-shopping and helped shape luxury branding, advertising, department stores, and the entertainment-led shopping spaces we know today.

Your guide brings the story to life with a 10-minute discovery inside Passage des Panoramas, one of the stops on the route. As you explore contrasting passages, notice the details that reveal how these sheltered streets changed the way people browsed and bought. After the walk, take home recommendations for more passages, shops, food, and nearby neighborhoods.

Join the Paris Hidden Passages Walking Tour to see the city’s commercial history through its distinctive arcades and galleries. Meet beside the fountain on the Comédie-Française side of the square, and arrive 15 minutes before departure.

How this score is calculated

This tour has no TourTruth score yet: Viator doesn't show a usable rating for it. It gets a score as soon as a provider lists one.

How the score works
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10. Tours without a usable provider rating are not scored.
