Explore Notre Dame’s Gothic exterior with an expert guide, then enter for free and discover the cathedral’s interior at your own pace.

About this tour

See Notre Dame’s celebrated Gothic architecture up close on a guided walk around its exterior, then explore the cathedral independently if it is open. This 60-minute Paris Notre Dame Exterior Guided Tour reveals the stories behind the soaring façade, flying buttresses, gargoyles, and details carved into the stone.

Your expert guide brings the cathedral’s history and symbolism to life as you take in its landmark exterior. After the guided portion, you can join the general admission line for free entry and discover the interior at your own pace. Interior access is not guided, and you may reserve a free time slot on Notre Dame’s official website or walk in; expect possible queues during peak periods.

Meet beside Notre Dame Pharmacy at 11 Rue Lagrange, where your guide will be holding a red-and-white One Journey sign. Exceptional closures can occur at short notice, so check the cathedral’s official website before your visit. If the interior is closed, an enhanced one-hour exterior tour is offered, with no refund. How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 4.50 from 438 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Paris
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 4.8.
