Explore Amiens Cathedral, Lochnagar Crater, First World War trenches, and moving memorials on a day trip from Paris.

About this tour

Travel from Paris into the Somme, where striking landmarks and preserved First World War sites bring history into focus. This 11-hour day trip pairs the soaring architecture of Amiens Cathedral with places shaped by the conflict.

Explore Lochnagar Crater, where Royal Engineer Tunneling Companies used 30 tonnes of explosives to destroy German dugouts. At the Newfoundland Memorial in Beaumont-Hamel, walk through the trenches used by Canadian soldiers. Pause among rows of graves marked for soldiers known only to God, then see uniforms, artillery, wartime posters, and personal belongings that offer a glimpse of the people behind the history.

Private transportation, onboard WiFi, bottled water, and an air-conditioned vehicle make the journey from Paris more comfortable. Discover the Somme’s landmarks and memorials on this Paris Somme Battlefields Day Trip.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 2 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Paris
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.2. Top 41% in Paris means it ranks in the top 41% of tours in Paris by this score.
