Travel from Civitavecchia to Rome in a private Mercedes, then explore the Vatican Museums with an official guide.

About this tour

Meet your private driver beside your cruise ship in Civitavecchia and set out for a day among Rome’s landmark sights. This Civitavecchia Rome and Vatican Museums tour pairs private transport in a Mercedes with a guided visit to the Vatican Museums, helping you make the most of your time ashore.

At the Vatican, an official private guide leads an approximately three-hour museum visit. The day also includes fast-track tickets for the Vatican Museums and Colosseum. Between stops, your professional English-speaking driver shares historical commentary from inside the vehicle as you take in views of Imperial and Renaissance Rome. The driver is not a licensed tour guide and cannot accompany you through the historic sites.

The Vatican visit moves to 12:30 pm on Wednesdays because of the Pope’s private audience, and the museums are closed on Sundays. Dress modestly, with knees and shoulders covered, for entry to places of worship and selected museums. St. Peter’s Basilica may be inaccessible during a Jubilee Mass or event, and some monuments may be under restoration. Choose this Civitavecchia Rome and Vatican Museums tour for private transport, expert museum guidance, and a full day of Roman history.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 1 review. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.1. Top 48% in Rome means it ranks in the top 48% of tours in Rome by this score.
