Explore Matera’s cave heritage on a private day tour with a local guide, visits to historic sites, and luxury transportation from Rome.

About this tour

Discover Matera on a private day tour from Rome, exploring one of Italy’s most distinctive historic cities with a local professional guide. Once known for poverty and cave dwellings without basic services, Matera has undergone a remarkable transformation and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Walk through the city’s evocative streets and visit the underground Palombaro Lungo, a rock-hewn church, and an ancient traditional home, with entrance tickets included. Private luxury transportation with a chauffeur provides pickup and drop-off, while your private tour leader accompanies you in the language selected at checkout. The route includes uneven ground, so travelers with physical limitations may find walking challenging; the tour is otherwise described as suitable for all fitness levels.

See Matera’s layered history up close and discover how its cave heritage became part of a celebrated modern destination. Book this private Matera day tour to experience the city with a guide and convenient transportation from Rome.

How this score is calculated

This tour has no TourTruth score yet: Viator doesn't show a usable rating for it. It gets a score as soon as a provider lists one.

How the score works
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10. Tours without a usable provider rating are not scored.
