Ride along Rome’s ancient Appian Way, admire aqueducts and tombs, then explore the Christian Catacombs with a licensed guide.

About this tour

Follow the Appian Way beyond Rome’s busy streets, where ancient aqueducts, tombs, and monuments line one of the city’s oldest roads. This private 3-hour Rome Appian Way and Catacombs Tour pairs a comfortable ride in a luxury Mercedes with time to get out and walk among the historic remains.

A knowledgeable local escort accompanies you along the route, then an official licensed guide leads your visit inside the Christian Catacombs. Admission tickets and bottled water are included, along with hotel pickup and drop-off in central Rome. The Catacombs visited can vary according to the opening schedule, so the underground stop may differ on your tour.

How this score is calculated

This score is based on one provider. Viator rates it 5.00 from 7 reviews. We place that rating among all Viator ratings and weight it by its review count. If the tour is found on another provider later, both ratings are combined.

How the score works and rating distribution in Rome
  • Each provider rating is turned into a percentile: the share of that provider's ratings it beats, weighted by review counts.
  • Listings on different providers are combined in proportion to their review counts.
  • Tours with few reviews are pulled toward the average until more reviews come in, so a handful of perfect reviews can't top the list.
  • The result is shown from 0 to 10: this tour scores 7.5. Top 24% in Rome means it ranks in the top 24% of tours in Rome by this score.
